Joining of A5052 aluminum alloy and SPCC steel by laser roll welding.
Free technical materials available! Laser roll welding that can also be utilized for reducing vehicle body weight in the automotive industry.
In the automotive industry, as efforts to reduce vehicle body weight progress, the use of aluminum alloys is increasing, and the joining of aluminum alloys with carbon steel sheets, as well as hybrid structural components made of steel and aluminum alloys, is attracting attention. This technical document discusses a new joining method called "laser roll bonding," which combines laser heating and roll pressure to rapidly pressure weld dissimilar materials, specifically low carbon steel (SPCC) and aluminum alloy (A5052), which have traditionally been difficult to join. This method generates a thin intermetallic compound layer at the joining interface to achieve greater ductility and shear strength.
